Welding Training Program Partnership Recognized

Posted in News at 11:09 am

The Job Center along with several other organizations recently received the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce Cooperation Recognition Government to Business Award for the Welding Training Program. This award recognizes an initiative involving one or more units of local government and one or more businesses acting jointly to accomplish a task or objective beyond the capability of each individually that promotes a strong economy, reduces cost, or improves the quality of life in Manitowoc County.

The Welding Training Program was developed in cooperation with Lakeshore Technical College, Manitowoc Crane Group, and the Bay Area Workforce Development Board in response to the shortage of welders in Manitowoc County. The 200 hour program developed by LTC resulted in training 87 individuals for various welding positions available at Manitowoc County employers. The majority were hired by the Manitowoc Crane Group.

The Bay Area Workforce Development Board invested more than $100,000 in WIA training funds to fund the program for dislocated workers and economically disadvantaged adults. When funding was no longer available, the Manitowoc Crane Group funded the last two programs with assistance from ABR Employment Services who facilitated the screening and selection of candidates.

The award was presented on February 6, 2007 at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinnner and Celebration of Champions event.
